The energy system

Denmark shall be independent of coal, oil and gas by 2050. Transition of the energy system to a more sustainable energy towards 2050 means an important expansion based on wind power and solar energy.

Denmark shall be independent of coal, oil and gas by 2050. This is a challenge to our actual energy system, as energy production based on renewable energy sources such as wind, sun and waves is fully dependent on the amount of wind and sunshine. This makes it more complicated to maintain our actual high degree of security of supply and stable energy supply as we know it today.

Denmark is striving to ensure a continued high degree of security of supply by means of:

Infrastructure

The most efficient use of energy is when energy can flow freely across borders by means of well-functioning energy grids. Consequently, the Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate focuses on an efficient infrastructure together with the other Nordic countries and at EU level.
